Dead Reckoning: A Generation Ship Simulation
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Dead Reckoning: The Long Drift
A terminal-view colony ship simulation. You command a generation ship carrying a thousand colonists across two centuries of deep space. They sleep in cryo. You decide what they wake up to.
Every run begins the same way: a ship, a crew, and the void. What drifts from there is up to you.
Features
- The Drift system — five paths your civilization can decay along: genetic, ideological, AI dependency, regression, class stratification. None of them are good. Some are interesting.
- 16 distinct endings — landfall, ghost ship, the AI contacting something, ritual landing, the deck taking control. Each one tracks the choices that brought you there.
- Five emergent factions — the Charter Committee, the Mission Adaptation Board, and three that only form if your crew drifts far enough: Diversity Council, Systems Advisory, Deck Assembly. They argue. They petition. Sometimes they take the ship.
- Research, navigation, scripted crises — twelve research categories, branching nav routes, faction directives, cultural policies, resource collapses, and over 100 scripted events.
- Five languages — English, German, French, Italian, Spanish (auto-detected on first run)
- CRT terminal aesthetic — pixel font, scanlines, drift-corrupted UI
The decisions get harder when the resources get thinner. The factions get louder when the years get longer. The endings remember everything.
Linux note: itch.io may warn the file needs chmod +x. The itch app handles this automatically.
